National Public Works Week - May 15 - 21, 2022

As part of National Public Works Week (NPWW), on May 17, 2022, the Saskatchewan Public Works Association (SPWA) is hosting an 0.6 CEU workshop titled Hydrant & Gate Valve Maintenance, in Moose Jaw, SK.

In completing this workshop water operators will gain an understanding of:

• Applicable associations and standards pertaining to fire hydrants and gate valves (AWWA, ANSI, UL, ULC, FM, NSF-61/372)
• Common Western Canada Fire hydrant and gate valve makes, models & options (thread spec, operating nut, color coding, draining/non-draining, & their functions)
• Safely operate, conduct maintenance, & recommission fire hydrants & gate valves
• Starting & continuing a hydrant & gate valve maintenance program (mapping location, where to start, how often)
• Conduct a hydrant inspection & record keeping of inspections
• Troubleshooting common issues & what corrective actions to take
